Certified Sustainability

Awarded by the GreenSign Institute

In October 2020, we were first certified by GreenSign and immediately achieved Level 3 out of 5. Over the following three years, we continuously worked on our sustainability strategy with great commitment and substantial investments – with the clear goal of taking a pioneering role in the hotel industry. This commitment was rewarded in 2023 during the recertification: We were able to make a significant step forward and achieve the highest GreenSign level.

Highest Level Achieved

With our second certification, we have achieved the highest possible level and are thus the only city hotel in Europe and one of only 17 hotels worldwide to receive this distinction

Green Thinking. Consciously Done.

We look back with pride on our progress so far, set ambitious goals, and continuously work to further improve our processes. Our vision is to be a place where people feel not only welcome but also valued. Nature is at the center of our focus, and sustainable action is an integral part of our philosophy.

Sustainability Report

We place great importance on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies. In 2022, we installed a combined heat and power plant (CHP) to efficiently generate heat and electricity. Additionally, in 2023, we commissioned a photovoltaic system to cover part of our energy needs with solar power. All unavoided emissions are annually balanced by ‘Klimahelden’ and fully offset by us, making us climate neutral.

Sustainable Development Goals

Our approaches are aligned with the UN’s global Sustainable Development Goals for socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable development. The 2030 Agenda with the 17 SDGs for sustainable development was adopted by the United Nations in 2015. It essentially refers to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We support all SDGs as follows:

SDG 1 – No Poverty

We believe in the power of community – and take responsibility where we can make an impact. We source over 90% of our food directly from the region. This not only strengthens local agriculture but also the people behind the products. In our team, we also focus on fair conditions: above-average pay, free public transport tickets, and stable jobs with purpose. Together, we create a future – fair and sustainable.

SDG 2 – Zero Hunger

Good food can change the world. In our Green Table-certified bowl restaurant, we focus on sustainable ingredients and use vegan, vegetarian, and fair trade products. Our fish is ASC-certified, and the meat is exclusively organic quality. We also live food appreciation in everyday life: Surpluses don't end up in the trash but with our team – together against waste, for healthy nutrition.

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being

Health begins in everyday life – that's why we create an environment where people feel comfortable. Whether it's flexible working time models, fresh meals, or Urban Sports Club membership: We make healthy lifestyles easier. We also use chemical-free steam cleaning – for fresh air and a clear conscience. And because mental health is just as important, we offer anonymous coaching for our team. For body and mind.

SDG 4 – Quality Education

Learning never stops with us - and development begins with small steps. Through free training sessions, we promote not only professional knowledge but also sustainability, communication, and personal strengths. We also take our guests along on this journey: through our digital guest folders, we share practical tips for environmentally friendly travel. Knowledge that inspires - beyond the stay.

SDG 5 - Gender Equality

Diversity makes us strong - equality is a given. With us, what matters is what people can do, not their gender. We practice transparent salaries, fair opportunities, and a work environment based on respect. Over 50% of our team are women - many of them parents. With flexible models and genuine appreciation, we create space for personal growth. For everyone.

SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation

Water is life - and we handle it mindfully. State-of-the-art filters and regular checks guarantee the best drinking water quality throughout the building. We clean exclusively with steam - without any chemicals. And through our collaboration with Click A Tree, over 600 kilograms of plastic have already been removed from the ocean. Clean - for people and the environment.

SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy

Our energy future is green. From 2026, we will source 100% green electricity, and additionally produce our own with photovoltaic and combined heat and power plants. With intelligent technology, we control heating, lighting, and cooling in a resource-efficient manner - and sensitize guests and employees to conscious energy use. Because every kilowatt-hour counts.

SDG 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth

Work should fulfill - not exhaust. That's why we offer not only fair wages but real benefits: 4-day week, Urban Sports Club, flexible models, and free mobility are just a few from a long list. But our commitment goes further: Through 'Click A Tree', we create global perspectives - for globally fair growth with heart.

SDG 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

The future is digital - but with people at the center. With smart technology and AI, we make processes more efficient and environmentally friendly. Our mobile check-in saves plastic, intelligent systems save energy. This leaves more time for what really matters: genuine contact, sustainable quality, and innovation that inspires.

SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities

Diversity is not a trend, but our reality. In our team, people from 17 nations work - all with equal opportunities, fair pay, and genuine recognition. We focus on inclusion, transparent advancement opportunities, and flexible solutions for individual life models. What matters to us is what you bring - not where you come from.

SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

Together for a livable city: We promote sustainable mobility with free public transport tickets, e-bikes for team guests, and soon even with our own e-car underground parking. But our commitment goes further: With local partners, we create green spaces and support projects like the Munich Central Park. For an urban coexistence with a future.

SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production

For us, sustainable consumption means more than just a trend - it's part of our attitude. We source over 90% of our food from the region to shorten transport routes, save CO₂, and strengthen local producers. Our meat is exclusively organic, our fish ASC-certified, and fair trade products are a matter of course for us. We live zero waste: From cleverly planned breakfast to the use of ReCup Rebowl - nothing is left over and nothing unnecessarily ends up in the trash. Our hotel is nearly paperless, we will completely replace cleaning agents with pure water in steam cleaners by 2025, and from 2026 we will supply ourselves exclusively with green electricity. We also think sustainably when it comes to care: Our vegan ADA cosmetic products are cruelty-free and gentle on the environment. Anyone who stays with us can offset their own arrival in a climate-friendly way with just a few clicks - together we make the difference.

SDG 13 - Climate Action

We act today for tomorrow's climate. That's why our hotel operations are already completely climate-neutral – through CO₂ reduction, conscious resource management, and targeted compensation. From 2026, we will use 100% green electricity, supported by our own photovoltaic system and an in-house CHP plant. We avoid waste, rely on digital solutions instead of paper, and use smart technologies that automatically save energy. We also offer sustainable mobility options: public transport tickets for our team, e-bikes for guests, and a zero-waste breakfast. Our commitment extends beyond the hotel door: With Click A Tree, we help remove plastic from the oceans and plant new forests – because real climate protection thinks globally.

SDG 14 – Life Below Water

Healthy oceans are essential for our climate and our lives. That's why we focus on conscious action: All our fish comes from sustainable, ASC-certified fisheries – protecting marine habitats and preventing overfishing. Together with Click A Tree, we have already removed 622 kilograms of plastic from the sea while simultaneously strengthening the coastal regions of the Philippines through tree planting. Every decision counts – even underwater.

SDG 15 – Life on Land

Whether on the hotel grounds or around the globe – we actively work to promote biodiversity and protect our ecosystems. Our outdoor areas are planted with climate-resistant plants that provide habitats for native insects. Insect hotels and nesting aids promote ecological balance right outside our door. We also make a difference in the kitchen: Organic meat, fair trade products, and our own herb garden stand for sustainable, nature-friendly sourcing. Together with Click A Tree, we plant new trees worldwide – because every root counts when it comes to the future of our planet.

SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Respectful cooperation and genuine justice are not just lip service for us, but lived reality. Equal pay for equal work – regardless of gender, origin, or background – is our standard. We stand for a fair, discrimination-free work environment with clear values and a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying or harassment. And because mental health also matters, Coach Rainer visits us regularly – as a listener, mediator, and source of strength in everyday life. Additionally, we support social organizations like the Nicolas May Foundation and Fluchtpunkt – for more humanity, both inside and outside our hotel.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

Great goals aren't achieved alone. That's why we work with strong partners to make our vision of sustainability a reality: – GreenSign Level 5: Highest award for sustainable hospitality – Click A Tree: Removed plastic from the sea, planted forests – Vegan Hospitality: Europe's first "vegan-friendly" certified hotel – Nicolas May Foundation Fluchtpunkt: Social help where it's needed – ReCup Rebowl: Less waste, more reuse – Klimahelden/Envalor: Calculation compensation of our CO₂ balance – Dr. Spray: Sustainable art instead of prints – RSPS (Coach Rainer): For mental strength a strong team – Regional suppliers: Over 90% of our food comes directly from the surrounding area. Together, we're shaping a more sustainable future – with heart, mind, and strong connections.

Of course, we also rely on the help of our guests.
