Certified Sustainability

Awarded by the GreenSign Institute

In October 2020, we were first certified by GreenSign and immediately achieved Level 3 out of 5. Over the following three years, we continuously worked on our sustainability strategy with great commitment and substantial investments – with the clear goal of taking a pioneering role in the hotel industry. This commitment was rewarded in 2023 during the recertification: We were able to make a significant step forward and achieve the highest GreenSign level.

Highest Level Achieved

With our second certification, we have achieved the highest possible level and are thus the only city hotel in Europe and one of only 17 hotels worldwide to receive this distinction

Green Thinking. Consciously Done.

We look back with pride on our progress so far, set ambitious goals, and continuously work to further improve our processes. Our vision is to be a place where people feel not only welcome but also valued. Nature is at the center of our focus, and sustainable action is an integral part of our philosophy.

Sustainability Report

We place great importance on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies. In 2022, we installed a combined heat and power plant (CHP) to efficiently generate heat and electricity. Additionally, in 2023, we commissioned a photovoltaic system to cover part of our energy needs with solar power. All unavoided emissions are annually balanced by ‘Klimahelden’ and fully offset by us, making us climate neutral.

Sustainable Development Goals

Our approaches are aligned with the UN’s global Sustainable Development Goals for socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable development. The 2030 Agenda with the 17 SDGs for sustainable development was adopted by the United Nations in 2015. It essentially refers to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We support all SDGs as follows:

SDG 1 – No poverty

We believe in the power of community—and take responsibility where we can make a difference. Over 90% of our food comes directly from the region. This not only strengthens local agriculture, but also the people behind the products. We also believe in fair conditions for our team: above-average pay, free public transportation tickets, and stable jobs with meaning. Together, we are creating a fair and sustainable future.

SDG 2 – Zero Hunger

Good food can change the world. In our Green Table-certified bowl restaurant, we pay attention to sustainable ingredients and focus on vegan, vegetarian, and fair trade products. Our fish is ASC-certified, and the meat on our plates is exclusively organic. We also practice food appreciation in our everyday lives: leftovers don't end up in the trash, but with our team—together against waste, for healthy eating.

SDG 3 – Good health and well-being

Health begins in everyday life – that's why we create an environment where people feel comfortable. Whether it's flexible working hours, fresh meals, or Urban Sports Club membership, we make healthy lifestyles easy(ier). We also use chemical-free steam cleaning – for fresh air and a clear conscience. And because mental health is just as important, we offer anonymous coaching for our team. For body and mind.

SDG 4 – Quality education

Learning never stops at our hotel – and development starts small. With free training courses, we not only promote specialist knowledge, but also sustainability, communication, and personal strength. We also take our guests along on the journey: we share practical tips for environmentally friendly travel via our digital guest folders. Knowledge that inspires – beyond your stay.

SDG 5 – Gender equality

Diversity makes us strong – equality is a given. What matters to us is what people can do, not what gender they are. We offer transparent salaries, fair opportunities, and a working environment based on respect. Over 50% of our team are women – many of whom are parents. With flexible models and genuine appreciation, we create space for everyone to flourish.

SDG 6 - Clean water and sanitation

Water is life – and we treat it with care. State-of-the-art filters and regular checks guarantee the best drinking water quality throughout the building. We clean exclusively with steam – without any chemicals. And through our partnership with Click A Tree, we have already removed over 600 kilograms of plastic from the ocean. Clean – for people and the environment.

SDG 7 – Affordable and clean energy

Our energy future is green. From 2026, we will be sourcing 100% of our electricity from green energy sources, and we will also be generating our own energy using photovoltaics and a combined heat and power plant. We use intelligent technology to control heating, lighting, and cooling in a resource-efficient manner, and we raise awareness among guests and employees about the importance of using energy consciously. Because every kilowatt hour counts.

SDG 8 – Decent work and economic growth

Work should be fulfilling – not exhausting. That's why we offer not only fair wages, but also real benefits: a four-day week, Urban Sports Club membership, flexible working models, and free mobility are just a few items on a long list. But our commitment goes even further: through Click A Tree, we are creating opportunities around the world – for global growth with heart.

SDG 9 – Industry, innovation, and infrastructure

The future is digital – but with people at its heart. We use smart technology and AI to make processes more efficient and environmentally friendly. Our mobile check-in saves plastic, while intelligent systems save energy. This leaves more time for what really matters: genuine contact, sustainable quality, and innovation that inspires.

SDG 10 – Reduced inequalities

Diversity is not a trend, it is our reality. Our team includes people from 17 countries – all with equal opportunities, fair pay, and genuine recognition. We are committed to inclusion, transparent career opportunities, and flexible solutions for individual lifestyles. What matters to us is what you bring to the table – not where you come from.

SDG 11 – Sustainable cities and communities

Working together for a livable city: We promote sustainable mobility with free public transportation tickets, e-bikes for teams and guests, and soon even our own electric car parking garage. But our commitment goes further: Together with local partners, we are creating green spaces and supporting projects such as Munich Central Park. For an urban community with a future.

SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production patterns

For us, sustainable consumption is more than just a trend—it's part of our attitude. We source over 90% of our food from the region to shorten transport routes, save CO₂, and support local producers. Our meat is exclusively organic, our fish is ASC-certified, and fair trade products are a matter of course for us. We live zero waste: from cleverly planned breakfasts to the use of ReCup & Rebowl – nothing is left over and nothing ends up in the trash unnecessarily. Our hotel is almost paper-free, we will completely replace cleaning products with pure water in steam cleaners by 2025, and by 2026 we will be powered exclusively by green electricity. We also think sustainably when it comes to personal care: our vegan ADA cosmetics are cruelty-free and gentle on the environment. Guests staying with us can offset their journey in a climate-friendly way with just a few clicks – together we can make a difference.

SDG 13 – Take action on climate change

We are taking action today for the climate of tomorrow. That is why our hotel operations are already completely climate neutral—through CO₂ reduction, conscious use of resources, and targeted offsetting. Starting in 2026, we will use 100% green electricity, supported by our own photovoltaic system and an in-house CHP unit. We avoid waste, rely on digital solutions instead of paper, and use smart technologies that automatically save energy. We also offer sustainable mobility options: public transportation tickets for our team, e-bikes for guests, and a breakfast with no leftovers. Our commitment extends beyond the hotel door: with Click A Tree, we help remove plastic from the oceans and plant new forests – because real climate protection thinks globally.

SDG 14 – Life below water

Healthy oceans are essential for our climate and our lives. That's why we are committed to conscious action: All of our fish comes from sustainable, ASC-certified fisheries – to protect marine habitats and combat overfishing. Together with Click A Tree, we have already removed 622 kilograms of plastic from the sea and strengthened the coastal regions of the Philippines by planting trees. Every decision counts – even underwater.

SDG 15 – Life on Land

Whether on the hotel grounds or around the globe, we are actively committed to greater biodiversity and the protection of our ecosystems. Our outdoor areas are landscaped with climate-resistant plants that provide habitats for native insects. Insect hotels and nesting aids promote ecological balance right on our doorstep. We also make a difference in the kitchen: organic meat, fair trade products, and our own herb garden ensure a sustainable, natural supply. Together with Click A Tree, we plant new trees worldwide—because every root counts when it comes to the future of our planet.

SDG 16 – Peace, justice, and strong institutions

Respectful cooperation and genuine fairness are not just lip service for us, but a reality we live by. Equal pay for equal work—regardless of gender, origin, or background—is standard practice at our company. We stand for a fair, discrimination-free working environment with clear values and a zero-tolerance policy toward bullying or harassment. And because mental health is also important, coach Rainer visits us regularly – as a listener, mediator, and source of strength in everyday life. In addition, we support social organizations such as the Nicolas May Foundation and Fluchtpunkt – for more humanity, both inside and outside our hotel.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for achieving the goals

Big goals cannot be achieved alone. That's why we work with strong partners to make our vision of sustainability a reality: – GreenSign Level 5: Highest award for sustainable hotels – Click A Tree: Plastic removed from the sea, forests planted – Vegan Hospitality: Europe's first “vegan-friendly” certified hotel – Nicolas May Foundation & Fluchtpunkt: Social aid where it is needed – ReCup & Rebowl: Less waste, more reuse – Klimahelden/Envalor: Calculation & compensation of our carbon footprint – Dr. Spray: Sustainable art instead of prints – RSPS (Coach Rainer): For mental strength & a strong team – Regional suppliers: Over 90% of our food comes directly from the surrounding area. Together, we are shaping a more sustainable future – with heart, mind, and strong connections.

Of course, we also rely on the help of our guests.

  • Water consumption – don't let the water run unnecessarily.
  • Energy – open the windows instead of turning on the air conditioning.
  • Avoid unnecessary printing – for example, you will receive the booking confirmation/invoice by email and you can fill out the registration form in advance on your mobile phone.
  • Separate your trash – our rooms are equipped with appropriately labeled trash cans for paper, organic waste, and residual waste.
  • Better yet, avoid waste! We will be happy to provide you with one of our shopping bags at reception, which you can use for your purchases.
  • Offset your CO2 emissions directly when you book, or plant a tree with us.
