We have our own little power plant – right on the roof! Our photovoltaic system, proudly placed on the rear building, is our shining contribution to a greener future. The system has been in operation since February 2023 and brings a real energy revolution to our roof with an output of 50 kWp. This sunny innovation not only supplies us with clean energy but is also a clear statement: We are committed to sustainability that pays off. For us, our guests, and of course, the planet. Every day, it converts sunlight into electricity, which we use to power parts of our hotel. That’s real power coming from above! And the best part? We’re in the process of taking it a step further. Negotiations are underway to expand our solar system and harness even more solar energy. Our goal? More green energy, less CO2 emissions, and an even more sustainable hotel. Deep beneath KOOS, right where an oil tank used to be, now beats the heart of our in-house energy supply: our combined heat and power plant (CHP). Put into operation in February 2022, it marks an important milestone on our path to greater sustainability and efficiency. With an electrical output of 10.7 to 20.0 kW and a heating capacity of 29.1 to 45.8 kW, our CHP is a real powerhouse. It not only supplies us with electricity but also with heat – and in the most environmentally friendly way possible. By decommissioning the old oil tank and replacing it with this modern system, we’ve taken another step away from fossil fuels and towards a greener, more sustainable energy source. The principle behind a combined heat and power plant is simple but ingenious: It simultaneously generates electricity and usable heat through cogeneration. This means we can drastically increase our energy efficiency and significantly reduce our CO2 footprint. With every watt of electricity and every unit of heat our CHP produces, we move further towards a self-sufficient and environmentally friendly hotel operation. We are proud to make a positive contribution to climate protection with this initiative while offering our guests a sustainable overnight experience. By planting mangroves, we not only provide habitat for wildlife but also support the local community. Planting these trees creates jobs for people and offers them a sustainable source of income. We’re also innovating in the restaurant: traditional menus, receipts, and bills in the restaurant are replaced by smartphones. This enables a seamless, paperless experience from ordering to payment. The administration of KOOS and our communication are also fully digitized. This practice guarantees fresh, ethically produced products directly on your plate – whether it’s honey from our own family production or handcrafted furniture from our local carpenter. Short supply chains represent reduced CO2 emissions, a strengthened local economy, and ensure that our products meet the highest environmental and social standards. We not only select our suppliers based on regional and sustainable criteria but also minimize environmental impact. For instance, we exclusively use environmentally certified cleaning products that are biodegradable and gentle on our planet. Additionally, we offer room cleaning only upon request to further optimize our ecological practices.

Good for you, good for the planet: Our vegetarian/vegan organic bowls. In our restaurant, we not only indulge your taste buds but also maintain a conscious approach to our environment. We select our ingredients with the utmost care: regional, predominantly organic, and always with a focus on sustainability and animal welfare. The meat industry significantly burdens our planet – through high water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and land use that leads to deforestation. Although our meat and fish meet the highest certification standards, we strive to further reduce our ecological footprint and raise awareness for more environmentally friendly eating habits. That’s why we offer a variety of delicious vegetarian and vegan options. With these alternatives, we aim to show that plant-based nutrition not only benefits the environment but is also diverse and enjoyable. In the heart of our green courtyard, right next to our proud herb garden, you’ll find a special attraction: Our insect hotel. This lovingly designed refuge is a sign of our deep respect for nature and all its inhabitants – especially those often overlooked. Insects play a crucial role in our ecosystem. They pollinate plants, promote biodiversity, and help maintain natural cycles. Our insect hotel provides a safe shelter and breeding ground for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects – a small but important contribution to the protection and promotion of these essential creatures. Art meets sustainability. At KOOS, we opt for graffiti to give our public areas and rooms a unique flair. A graffiti artist has transformed our walls into works of art that not only inspire but also align with our commitment to sustainability. The special feature: No frames, no printing, less resource consumption. These graffiti reflect our dynamic atmosphere and demonstrate how art and environmental protection can go hand in hand. Should the works one day no longer fit the concept, they can simply be painted over without producing waste, but hopefully, that won’t be necessary for a long time.

Start your day at KOOS not only with a delicious breakfast but also an environmentally conscious one. Our zero-waste buffet completely eliminates unnecessary packaging. All products are purchased in bulk and attractively presented, ensuring that no waste is generated for our guests while eating. We are thus setting a clear example against waste and for conscious consumption. We focus not only on waste prevention at breakfast but also on sustainability “to go”. Thanks to our partnership with ReCup and Rebowl, we offer food and drinks in reusable containers. This makes it easy for our guests to actively reduce waste and protect our environment. Efficient waste management and recycling are a matter of course for us. We carefully separate our waste and use recyclable materials wherever possible. Even the capsules for the coffee machines in the guest rooms are made of wood and fully recyclable.

Together for the environment. At KOOS, we are passionately committed to environmental protection and have launched numerous initiatives to minimize our carbon footprint. Despite all efforts, CO2 is still generated that we cannot directly reduce. To fully contribute to climate protection, we therefore offset our remaining CO2 emissions annually with the support of Envalor. Through these joint efforts, we can not only protect the planet but also create awareness for the importance of sustainable action. At KOOS Hotel, we place great importance on environmentally friendly and health-conscious cleaning. That’s why we rely on the innovative steam cleaning technology from MEDECO CLEANTEC. Using dry steam at temperatures of up to 180°C, we clean our rooms, bathrooms, and common areas completely chemical-free – using only water. This method not only reliably removes dirt but also eliminates up to 99.99% of all bacteria, viruses, and germs, without leaving any residues or irritating substances. The complete avoidance of cleaning agents not only protects the environment but also the health of our guests and our team. At the same time, we reduce water consumption and protect surfaces, as the cleaning process is particularly gentle on materials. This way, we extend the lifespan of our furnishings and actively contribute to more sustainable hotel operations. For us, sustainability is not a trend, but a lived reality – even in our cleaning practices.

At KOOS Hotel, we are already committed to sustainable energy today: Part of our electricity demand is covered directly on-site by our own photovoltaic system and our combined heat and power plant. This not only reduces our CO₂ emissions but also creates a degree of independence in our energy supply. From January 1, 2026, we’re taking it a step further: The additional electricity needed – that is, everything we don’t produce ourselves – will then be sourced exclusively through our partner E.OPTIMUM. This electricity comes 100% from renewable sources such as hydropower, wind power, and solar energy. With this combination of in-house production and certified green electricity, we are ensuring our energy supply is sustainable in the long term. For our guests, this means: staying with comfort and a clear conscience – in a hotel that takes responsibility.

At KOOS Hotel, we want not only our guests but also the environment to feel comfortable. That’s why we use selected care products from NATURA-COSMETICS in our bathrooms – including an organic-certified shampoo made with natural ingredients. The products are free from microplastics, silicones, or artificial fragrances and are particularly skin and environmentally friendly. The plant-based ingredients come from controlled organic farming and are processed in a resource-conserving manner. Another plus: The packaging is 100% recycled – in line with a closed-loop recycling system. This way, our guests can refresh themselves with a clear conscience while we actively contribute to protecting the environment and resources. Because true sustainability often shows itself in the little things.
